Flat Belts Drive

When we talk about  flat transmission belts, we must know first of all, that flat belts are nothing more than power transmission elements, so that once coupled on pulleys, we will be able to transmit torques.

A basic feature of flat belts is that they are manufactured using flexible materials, which will make their assembly simple. Flat drive belts work by friction with pulleys, and will also play a key role in reducing vibrations between drive shafts.

Flat belts have historically been the most used and the most demanded in the market, with applications in all types of industrial sectors that need tools to transmit power. Nowadays  other types of drive belts are also used, but flat belts still have some advantages over other types of belts in some cases. We speak for example of all those cases in which thanks to the use of flat belts, we can apply cross configurations, or what is the same, a type of power configuration between two non-parallel axes. Thanks to this arrangement, we will achieve a clutch action, being able, in addition, to configure the desired length.

We could summarize all the advantages of Flat Belts Drive in:

  • They can be used when the distance between the centers of the axes is high.
  • When using flat belts we can make cross configurations, or what is the same, a power transmission between two non-parallel axes, so that we will obtain a clutch action.
  • The flat belts are really resistant to the most demanding conditions, and also have a low maintenance.
  • With the flat straps we can achieve the necessary length, thanks to the union between their ends.
  • Flat belts are usually thin, so it will help us reduce centrifugal force in movement.
  • In addition to all this, they have a high performance.

Types of flat belts that we can find

As we have already mentioned, flat belts are the most used in  the field of industry historically, and therefore we can say that they are a benchmark in the sector, since they were the first belts that were used.

The straps have evolved especially in the materials with which they are manufactured, and today we can find them in various formats. On the one hand, we find the flat belts manufactured in combination with polyamide and high strength rubber.

We also find flat transmission belts made in combination with polyester and aramid, as well as polyurethane and high-strength rubber.

Another option of flat belts that we find, are those joined by welding, manufactured with only one piece, and with materials such as polyester, aramid, cotton and rubber.

Finally, in Dynamics we also have the option of manufacturing flat belts in combination of any drag material, designed on demand.

Uses of flat belts in industry

We must bear in mind that transmission belts are nowadays, one of the most used elements in any type of friction force mechanism, especially in the union of two or more wheels or pulleys.

It is currently a very basic and common mechanism, but its application is very old, being used first in a bicycle that uses chain traction to the rear wheel, just like those we find today.

Later, and until today, one of the most extensive applications of  flat transmission belts  is found in the automotive sector, although flat belts are used in any machinery that needs power transmission force between axles.

Catalog of flat belts of Dynamics

In the wide catalog of flat belts of Dynamics, you will find the following options to cover all your needs:

      • PolyBelt flat belts, which  are those that present a combination of a thin layer of traction polyamide with a special rubber, which has a very high resistance to wear. In addition, it has a thermoweld union with chemical products.
      • PolySprint flat belts, which are those that combine polyester or aramid tensile fabrics, with other layers of polyurethane and rubber with high wear resistance. In this case, these belts have a joint by thermowelding without chemicals.
      • Endless Flat Belts, in  this type of belts there is no welding joint, but they are manufactured in one piece with a length tailored to the client. These straps have a combination of polyester, aramid, or cotton tensile fabrics together with highly resistant materials such as, for example, rubber, polyurethane, polyester or silicone.
      • Flat belts with Special Executions, we also have the possibility of manufacturing flat belts combining any tractor element with any razing material. In this way, we can offer you the possibility of machining and designs on request.
